Central Shines at NCFL
5/27/2008 -- Kansas City Central's debate team of seniors, Ryan Wash and Kirsten Bruce have just returned from the NCFL Grand Nationals in Appleton, WI....They defeated a team from Greenwood High School in Springfield, MO before losing in octofinals. The loss was on a 2-1 decision against Bronx Science High School from New York, the team that eventually won the tournament.

DKC Recruitment Workshop Energizes Students
5/16/2008 -- DEBATE-Kansas City hosted nearly 100 middle and high school students from both Missouri and Kansas at its annual Recruitment Workshop on the campus of the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC). The workshop focused on students who have never debated before but have shown interest. New students learn how debate can benefit them and offered everyone a chance to participate in actual debates.

Family of The Great Debaters Coach to Honor Legacy at DEBATE-Kansas City Awards Night
4/23/2008 -- Three family members of legendary debate coach Melvin B. Tolson, played by Denzel Washington in The Great Debaters, will attend DEBATE-Kansas City’s (DKC) Awards Night April 24th. Sons Melvin Jr. and Arthur, along with grandson Kenneth, will give remarks and present the first annual Melvin B. Tolson Senior Award.

Sean Easterwood Top Speaker at Urban Debate National Championship, DKC Rocks Tournament
4/7/2008 -- Four DEBATE-Kansas City seniors from Central High School swept through the first-ever Urban Debate National Championship in Chicago, Illinois April 3-6. Sean Easterwood was the top speaker and both teams representing DKC advanced to the quarterfinals. Matheno Fraizer-Bey was the 11th place speaker, Aaron Thomas 14th and Dashawnta Brunson took 18th.
